Red-cockaded Woodpeckers

I went back into the Withlacoochee State Forest - Citrus Tract to a different nesting cluster to photograph the Endangered Red-Cockaded woodpeckers. I got there early enough to get them at their active period of the day. they were coming to and from the nest cavity with food for the younsters inside.

Looks like so much sap on that tree that I"m suprised he doesn't get sappy feet!
How wonderful to see an engangered bird...I was amazed that he has no red on him that I can see, yet he is call a red-cockaded woodpeacker or is that the female...just curious...

The yare called Red-cockaded woodpecker because there is small spec of red on the side on there head. Normally you can't see it
