Saturday while eating lunch, a Pileated Woodpecker flew into my yard and allowed me to take a few photographs. I had assumed that was a ounce in a lifetime event because in the 10+ years here a Pileated had never before appeared in my yard. Well, this morning I was sitting on the back porch having my first cup of coffee when I herd a loud thumping on the oak tree next to the house. The noise was too loud to be a Red Bellied Woodpecker, so I went out side for a look, and sure enough, I saw that "Woody Woodpecker" had returned. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Watch where he goes. He may be in the middle of nest building or already has. If you find the nest cavity you are sure to find some chicks
