Ira, these are very nice shots of the cardinals. I never get such closeups, even with a long lens. What kind of lens are you using and how far away were you? I'm thinking of setting up some kind of blind to get closer to my feeder. Thanks. Linda

I have a Canon XTi with a Tamron 200-500mm attached. These shots were taken in my back yard where I have a feeder set up, and I have placed some dead tree branches in the ground and placed an old rotten tree stump for perches. Then I just sit in a chair in the back yard or on the porch and take the photographs. The birds are 15 to 25 feet from me.

This indicates I need several things over the next year. Bird feeders, stumps, a longer lens, patience, and ... oh yeah some birds but those will come I hope.
You have consistently good shots with your setup. Congratulations.
