Taken yesterday on a cold, wet and windy afternoon. I must have visited 40 burrows and this was the only owl brave enough to come out or he, like me, doesn't know enough to come in out of the rain.

Excellent shot, Ron.
I've looked for burrowing owls but have not spotted any. Not that I really know what I'm looking for, in terms of habitat. I had heard that there were some near where I live, but the only burrows I seem to find are those belonging to Gopher Tortoises.

Thanks Maureen. The best place I know of is in the city of Cape Coral where I took this one. The city has kind of adopted them and there are numerous nests that are well marked and readily accessible. There is also a corresponding number of kestrels and other predators perched around the nests. Try this site for more info if you are interested. myfwc.com/CONSERVATION/ConservationYou_Living_w_Wildlife_burrowing_owls.htm

great find and capture. I wish there was more of them around here. I guess we must go down the road to find them.
