I just re-discovered the city beach in the heart of Dunnellon. The beach is right at the junction where the Rainbow River and the Withlacoochie River join and the setting is really pretty. I went there at 3:30 pm and there were several cormorants swimming around so I imagine the early morning hours would be even better. The beach opens at 8:00 am. To get there turn onto Pennsylvania Avenue at the traffic light. Turn right at the street right after The Angry Onion restaurant (just before Penn Plaza with the NAPA store in it). Go one block to Granada and turn right. You should see a sign for the beach which will be a left turn. Admission is free!

Thanks, Linda. I'll have to go check it out one morning. Is Dunnellon really a city? Who knew?

Whoops! I gave bad directions to the Dunnellon City Beach. When you get to Granada, you turn left and you'll see a sign for the beach. Then you turn right to get to the beach. Sorry about that!
