In Florida, almost every big commercial property (Shopping Center, Motel, Bank, subdivision, etc,) has one or more retention ponds required by law, and many are used by ducks in the winter season. What's nice is that most retention ponds are small and less than 50' across, which means that the ducks are never far away from photographers or other observers. This female Hooded Merganser was found in such a retention pond. Normally, several pairs are present in this pond, but this morning she had the pond to herself.
